Fourth of July Pet Safety Tips
/The Fourth of July is just around the corner! As partners in the care of your pets, Come, Sit, Stay wants to help this holiday be as safe for your furry friends as it is fun for you! Here are a few tips on how to ensure your pets stay safe and happy during your celebrations:
Keep alcoholic drinks out of pets’ reach.
Avoid giving table scraps to your pets. Changes in their usual diets can lead to upset stomachs!
Keep citronella candles and insect repellant away from your pets.
Never use fireworks around your pets.
Keep an eye on your pets in crowds and remove them from the situation if they begin to display signs of anxiety. Closely monitor their body language to assess the situation.
In general, it is best to leave your pets indoors while celebrating.
Make sure your house is secure so your pets cannot run out if they are spooked.
Give your pets access to a safe spot for them to hide indoors.
Use ambient noise to distract them. White noise or calming music are good options.
Make sure collars are on and well fitted and check that microchips are updated in case your pet escapes.
Keep your pets busy while you are celebrating. Frozen Kong toys filled with pet-safe treats are a good option!
Exercise your pets early in the day so they are tired while they are left alone.
Most importantly, have a fun and safe Fourth of July!
